Nestled in Nantes, France, the Jardin des Plantes stands as one of the city’s premier parks, spanning seven hectares of lush botanical gardens. Boasting a rich tapestry of biodiversity, the garden harbors an impressive array of approximately 10,000 different species and 5,000 diverse flowers, offering a haven for nature enthusiasts and botany aficionados alike.
Amidst its verdant expanse, the Jardin des Plantes is adorned with magnificent greenhouses and captivating statues, adding to its allure and charm. However, what truly sets this park apart is its vibrant cultural scene, as it hosts several exhibitions each year showcasing the works of esteemed local artists.
One of the most celebrated artworks adorning the park is the whimsical topiary sculpture depicting sleeping baby birds. This fanciful creation captivates visitors with its enchanting charm and intricate craftsmanship, serving as a testament to the park’s commitment to artistry and creativity.
As a beloved sanctuary of nature and culture, the Jardin des Plantes continues to enchant visitors with its botanical wonders and artistic treasures, inviting all to immerse themselves in its beauty and tranquility.
Poussin Endormi, which translates to “sleepy chick,” displays a giant baby bird snoozing peacefully in the heart of the beautiful garden. The sculpture, designed by Claude Ponti – a French children’s book author and artist, was part of the garden’s 2014 display.
The adorable baby bird was completed with cute bamboo legs and a brilliant yellow beak. And the highlight is the chick’s drowsy eyelids outlined with lashes! Scroll down to check them out.
