Ice can be both destructive and perilous, but it can also unintentionally give rise to some of the most exquisite and captivating sights in a winter wonderland. The process of ice formation is influenced by countless variables, and even the slightest fluctuations in humidity, temperature, or wind speed can give birth to a myriad of natural phenomena.
While ice formations create beautiful views, they can also pose deadly threats. Black ice, formed when clear ice covers a black road surface, has been the cause of many fatal and near-fatal accidents. Hail storms can also be damaging and deadly, with the largest recorded hailstone in the U.S. being the size of a bowling ball.
If you’ve captured stunning pictures of ice formations this winter, such as icicles or snow rollers, we’d love to see your photos showcasing the beauty of nature added to this list! Feel free to vote for your favorites as well.
